Haircare products

Hair is such an important part of who we are, it helps us form our identities or change our look. We can use it as a statement, or even a shield, and it goes through an awful lot. There aren't many people out there, women especially, that don't put their hair through a lot, with different products, heat, hairspray, brushing, teasing, dying, and they take a real toll on the health and quality of our hair. I have naturally curly hair but I choose to straighten it after I wash it (which is only once or twice a week) as I find it so much easier to maintain this way! I wanted to talk a little about the products I use on my hair to keep it healthy but just remember that everyone's hair is different, my hair is very thick, so much so that my grandfather (who was bald on top with hair around the sides, real trendsetter!) used to joke that he wished we could share mine as we'd both still have enough to go around! Woops, wandered of target a bit there! But yes my hair is very thick, can get quite frizzy, and as I said is naturally curly so if you were born with thin, straight hair, you may want to change these products up to suit your individual needs, but I still think this post can be helpful to you, just bear that in mind.

Alright a real key factor to the health and maintenance to your hair is shampoo and conditioner. My  mother and I have gone through dozens and dozens of brands in our time as no one seems to deliver on their promise to 'smooth and tame frizz' but we finally discovered Herbal Essences. One of the great things about this brand is that they have specific purposes, such as hydration or one to help bring out natural curls, but I landed on this, Nourish me butter set. I was drawn to it on the promise of nourishment, but as soon as I got a whiff of that Cupuacu Butter Scent I knew it had to be mine! Obviously we all know how to use shampoo and conditioner so I won't bore you with that, although the conditioner doesn't give a time on how long to leave it so I usually go with about five minutes (only on the ends of hair), and I am so impressed with them both! Some shampoos seem to take so long to lather but this one really feels like it's cleaning away any grease and when you wash off the conditioner you can already feel that you hair is so smooth, I definitely recommend these!

After my hair is washed I know that I have to go in with a heat protectant because at some stage it will be getting straightened! The one I've been using for a while now is the Schwarzkopf Pro styling heat protectant spray, I focus mainly on the ends, and you really need to make sure that if you're planning on using any kind of heat on your hair you use a protectant because hair needs moisturising much like the skin does. Finally, I pour a few drops of Argan oil into my palm, rub my hands together, and work it through the ends of my hair to smooth them out, but it also provides another degree or heat protection. I never put the oil anywhere near my roots because I feel like it would just make them greasy and nobody wants that!

I hope this has been useful to some of you, remember that there's always time to look after yourself and hair care is a part of that!
