Real Techniques Tools

Hello everyone, I think it's safe to say that summer has now officially begun and whilst I was sitting in the lounge listening to the birds and wondering what to do I thought, why not make a blog post? I recently bought the Real Techniques Core Collection set and Complexion Sponge having already got the Expert Face Brush and I wanted to make a post about them in case anyone is considering buying them but isn't sure about the quality/ price.

I've been using the Expert Face Brush for a while now and it was the first proper base brush I owned, I'd heard it was good quality so I thought the price was probably fair and after using it I realise that it's always better to buy things that are good quality, even if they're a little more expensive, because they give you better results and last so much longer than the cheaper options. I use it to apply either my foundation or base product and it gives an even coverage and doesn't leave any annoying fibres on your face!

Moving on to the Core Collection set, again it's slightly more expensive than some others but not too crazy and the products are good quality. In it, you get a buffing brush, a pointed foundation brush, a detailer brush and a contour brush and the only one I don't really use that much is the pointed foundation brush because I prefer to use liquid to powder foundations as I have an oily T zone so they work best for me. If, however, you like very liquidy foundations I'm sure this brush would be good to swipe the product onto your face before buffing it on with the buffing brush/ face brush whereas I like to go straight to the buffing brush for my base.

I wasn't really sure what to do with the detailer brush at first because it's so tiny but I've found that I like to use it for placing small amounts of green colour corrective concealer onto my spots before applying my base ad it's extremely precise and effective. Next is the contour brush, it's so fluffy and has a really nice angle to it which makes it perfect for applying powder contour around your face and in the hollows of your cheeks. I've also found it great for applying a light powder to the centre of my face and under my eyes to set my concealer.

Lastly is the Complexion Sponge which I use damp to blend in my concealer under my eyes and any I put around my face to highlight. Unlike when using a brush or my fingers this sponge doesn't seem to remove or soak up the product and it really nicely blends in to my base so it's a great little product. I also use it on any areas of foundation that may have gone a bit cakey or set into dry patches and it brings it back very well. All in all I think that all of these products are well worthwhile and will be staple pieces in any makeup lovers' kit. I hope everyone is enjoying the sun (but always remember to protect your skin, you don't want to spend your forties looking like a leather handbag!)

Until next time,

Gabrielle
